Can I get the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery through RPL?

Possibly, if you already do this work. A registered training organisation (RTO) assesses evidence of your skills against all 25 units. If you meet every requirement, it issues the full qualification. If there are gaps, it may recommend gap training.

What are the 48 service periods?

The unit Work effectively as a cook requires you to prepare, cook and serve menu items for at least 48 complete service periods in a commercial kitchen, covering a mix of breakfast, lunch and dinner. For RPL, your work history may be used as evidence. The RTO decides what it accepts.

Will I be assessed practically?

Usually, yes. Besides your documents, the RTO may observe you cooking or set practical tasks, and may interview you about your work.

Does it make me a qualified chef?

Completing it contributes to recognition as a trade cook. Job titles like chef depend on the employer and your experience.

Is it the same qualification as doing it at TAFE?

Yes. It is the same nationally recognised SIT30821 qualification whichever way you complete it.

What happens if the RTO can't issue my qualification?

For RPL, our 100% money-back guarantee applies: if, after assessing all your evidence, the RTO can't issue your qualification, you get a full refund. Full conditions are in our Terms of Service.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

It depends on the route, the provider and, for RPL, how quickly you gather your evidence. You get the provider, cost and an estimated timeline before you decide anything.

Is getting the qualification guaranteed?

No. It is issued only when the RTO finds you have met every requirement. That is what keeps it nationally recognised.
